Chess Tactics
Tactics are one of the most important parts of the game of chess.
What is a tactic?
A tactic is a move (or sequence of moves) that gives you an immediate advantage over your opponent.
What advantage can a tactic give you in a game?
Depending on the game's position, a tactic can enable you to:
- Win a piece
- Win the exchange (trading a bishop or knight for an enemy rook)
- Checkmate you opponent
- Draw a game in which you may be down in position or material
- Force your opponent to make a game-losing move
There are a lot of tactics that can be found in a game. They can be the game winning part of a chess match.
The study of tactics can greatly improve your game and can greatly increase your rating.
